Statement of Claim
CONSUMER LAW GROUP has filed a class action against Starbuck’s for misleading consumers about the ethical sourcing of its coffee products and the undisclosed presence of volatile organic compounds.
Despite packages of Starbucks coffee stating Starbucks is “Committed to 100% Ethical Coffee Sourcing”, extensive investigations by journalists, labor organizations, and human-rights monitors have documented that farms certified under Starbucks’ C.A.F.E. [Coffee And Farmer Equity] Practices program have repeatedly engaged in egregious labor abuses and degrading working conditions, and violations of local labor laws. C.A.F.E. Practices-certified farms have been found to engage in extensive human rights violations including forcing workers to work in dangerous conditions without protective gear, forcing workers to live in utterly unacceptable conditions, and myriad other offenses that violate local labor laws.
In addition, independent testing has detected volatile organic compounds, including benzene, toluene and methylene chloride, in its decaffeinated Starbucks coffee beans. These types of volatile organic compounds are widely used in industrial applications, such as paint removers, paint strippers and other solvent products, and are not typically associated with food production.
If you or someone you know has purchased Starbuck’s decaffeinated coffee and you wish to obtain more information on potential compensation or to be kept advised of the status of the Class Action litigation or any resulting compensation resulting from the Class Action Lawsuit in Canada, Ontario, or Quebec, please provide your contact information to our law firm using the below form.
